How to Pin & Unpin Contacts to the Top of the Messages App on Your iPhone: Rita’s iDevice Advice for October 12, 2020
Apple’s latest iOS update, iOS 14, allows iPhone users to pin their most important contacts and group texts to the top of the Messages app, making it faster and easier to send a text message to the people you message the most. You can pin up to nine text threads, which will appear at the top of your Main Messages page as circular icons. It’s quick and easy to pin a contact or group message to the top of your Messages, and, if you change your mind about it later, it’s just as fast to unpin it.
Note: These instructions were written for sighted persons, who are not using voiceOver. If you are using VoiceOver: when the instructions say “Tap on an item”, perform a one finger double tap.
How to Pin Your Most-Used Contacts to the Top of Your Messages List
1. Open the Messages app.
2. Navigate to your Main Messages page and find the contact or group message that you want to pin.
3. Press and hold the text message (not the contact icon) from the person or group you’d like to pin.
4. Tap Pin (name) at the top of the menu that appears.
5. If you want to unpin your chosen contact, press and hold the icon you want to remove, then tap Unpin (name).

In iOS 14, you can pin your favorite and most important conversations to the top of the list, so you’ll always know where they are. It is now also possible to create Mentions within group conversations, and be notified only when you are mentioned. Listen to the included audio demo, to experience these features with Voiceover.
